Planning Umrah from the UK requires careful attention to Saudi Arabia’s visa and entry requirements. Whether you are a British citizen travelling on a UK passport or a non-UK national living in the UK with a valid UK visa, your Umrah visa requirements can be different.

Umrah Visa for UK Passport Holders

British citizens travelling on a full British citizen passport must obtain the appropriate Saudi permission to enter the Kingdom. 

Current UK government guidance confirms that eligible British passport holders can apply for a Saudi Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for Umrah outside the Hajj season.

The ETA is currently valid for 730 days and permits multiple entries, subject to the applicable maximum stay rules. (GOV.UK)

Eligible British travelers may also have access to Saudi’s tourist eVisa route. Saudi Arabia’s official tourist eVisa information confirms that the tourist eVisa can be used for Umrah, but not Hajj. (Visa to Saudi Arabia)

Therefore, UK passport holders should always make sure they obtain the correct authorization before travelling and check the latest requirements at the time of booking.

Umrah Visa for Other Nationalities Living in the UK

Many people living in Britain hold passports from countries other than the UK. For example, a traveler may have a Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, Nigerian or other nationality passport while holding a valid UK residence or visit visa.

In this situation, having a UK visa does not automatically mean that the traveller has the same Saudi visa eligibility as a British passport holder. Saudi visa eligibility is primarily connected to the passport/nationality being used for travel and the applicable Saudi visa rules. 

Some travelers holding qualifying visas or residence status may have additional Saudi visa options, but these must be checked against the current Saudi regulations before booking.

This is particularly important for passengers holding a long-term UK visa, such as a multi-year UK visit visa. The fact that the UK visa is valid for several years does not by itself guarantee eligibility for a Saudi eVisa or visa on arrival.

What Documents May Be Required?

Depending on the visa route and nationality, travelers may need a valid passport, UK immigration status or visa evidence, photographs, accommodation and travel information, insurance and other supporting documents.

Your passport should also meet Saudi Arabia’s validity requirements. Current UK government guidance states that a passport should have at least six months’ validity from the date of arrival in Saudi Arabia. (GOV.UK)
